How to Choose Spinning

I propose to discuss how to choose spinning. When choosing the spinning, one should clearly realize that there are no universal spinning. Yes, there are rod, which can be called relatively universal. But we must understand that everything universal is always worse than specialized.

Spinning differ in a number of criteria. Depending on the length, material of manufacture, building, dough and power, the type of rings, features of the coil holder and arm, the kind of design. We will talk about these selection criteria for spinning.

How to choose spinning

The basis of spinning is its form, which is attached to the holder of the coil, handle, access rings. Traditionally, the length of the spinning varies from 1.4 to 4 meters. The choice of length depends on the specialization of catching. Including whether you are going to catch from a boat or from the shore.

Spinning length 2.1 - 2.7 meters is suitable for fishing, both from the shore and from the boat. This spinning is optimal for catching fish on medium and small rivers, lakes, ponds and canals up to 120 meters wide.

In most cases, for fishing from the shore, spinners with a length of 2.5 to 3 meters are more convenient. This length makes it easier to traverse obstacles during wiring, changing the lure wiring horizon. When fishing for a considerable distance from the shore, a large length of spinning adds to the casting at times a much needed few meters. Long spinning at a great distance is easier and more effective.

Spinning length of more than 2.7 meters - the choice of fishermen who catch on large rivers, reservoirs and lakes. The maximum casting range of such rods is about 100 meters.

For fishing from the boat, you must choose a small spinning. A long rod in a confined space can create additional inconveniences. We note that a decrease in length leads to a slight decrease in the casting range. For example, the difference in casting distance between a three-meter and two-meter spinning is only about 15%. In addition, when fishing from a boat, the casting range is almost always unimportant.

Also remember that short spinning’s are more sensitive than long ones. They are also more convenient. Fishing with a short rod is less tedious.

No less important factor is the cost of spinning. Every 30 centimeters of length increases the cost of the rod by about 10%.

How to choose the spinning depending on the power and the test

Depending on the expected fishing features, the optimum power and spinning test are different. Long-distance casting and wiring at depth in conditions of strong currents require the use of heavy baits. In this case, the mass of the bait must match the test of the rod. In catalogs of fishing goods this characteristic is designated by the term "Lure weight" or "Casting weight".

spinning test

Many spinning tests are often indicated in ounces (1 ounce - 28 grams) and indicates the range of bait weight suitable for a particular spinning model. For example, 7-30 grams.

The lower limit means the mass of the bait that will be felt when casting. The upper limit is a value meaning that using a bait of a larger mass can lead to a breakdown of the spinning during force casting.

I draw your attention that the test indicated on the spinning surface does not always correspond to reality. In the case of rods of the lower price category, it is almost always overestimated. Companies producing high-value products usually indicate the actual characteristics of tackle.

Depending on the weight of the bait, suitable for use with a specific spinning model, the rods are classified into three classes:

  1. Heavy: bait weight 15 - 60 grams;
  2. Medium: 7 to 30 grams;
  3. Light: 3 - 15 grams;
  4. Ultra-light: 1 - 7 grams.

In addition, spinners of intermediate classes are encountered. Such characteristics of spinning, as power and recommended weight of thrown bait, should be divided. The rod, intended for casting light baits, does not necessarily have a small power. A good example is light salmon rods. These spinning’s, used for casting light baits, have a thin upper part of the blank. But in the process of fighting a powerful fish in a strong current, the main load is transferred to the lower part of the blank.

Thus, the spinning power is primarily determined by the thickness of its lower part, and the test by the thickness of the tip. A balanced combination of considerable power and easy test is possible only in long-length spinning. For example, if you make a short rod with a thin top and a thick base, it will be insensitive to light baits.

Depending on the spinning power, the range of recommended scaffolds is determined. Typically, the form indicates the recommended breaking load, expressed in feet (1 foot - 465 grams). The range of recommended lines is an important characteristic. So, if you use an excessively strong line, you can break the rod with a sharp cut or hook.

How to choose a spinning depending on the building

The spinning structure determines the time response when the tackle is loaded. Story is a characteristic of the rod, on which its time response to load changes depends. The structure can be superfast, fast, medium and slow. In practice, it is possible to determine the system by evaluating the shape of the spinning bending under load. Spinning with a slow system is uniformly bent along the entire length, resembling a parabola. In connection with this, these rods are called parabolic. In the spinning of a fast structure, only the vertex is bent under the load.

The design of the rod depends on the geometry of the blank and the rigidity of the material. The greater the thickness of the walls, their taper and stiffness of the material, the faster the spinning structure. On the question of which spinning to choose depending on the system, it is impossible to answer unambiguously. The choice depends on the characteristics of the reservoir, the object of fishing, personal preferences.

Objective advantages of spinning’s with a slow system include the following indicators:

  1. Best depreciation in the fight against fish;
  2. Less sharpness of casting, which is convenient, for example, when casting live bait;
  3. Some increase in casting distance.

Spinning with a fast system is preferable to use in windy weather. In addition, these rods are more sensitive.

Plug-in or telescopic spinning?

The once popular telescopic spinning’s are almost completely replaced by their plug-in competitors. The only advantage of the "telescope" is its compact size when folded. The disadvantages are much greater. Basically, the telescopic rod is inferior to the "plug" for all the essential characteristics. The structure of the "telescope", even having a soft top, cannot be called either fast or slow. The location of the access rings is not at all ideal. Each knee of the telescopic rod is the contender for a breakdown in the fight against fish, hook or sharp cutting.

We choose the spinning depending on the material of manufacture

Today, for the production of spinning, two basic materials are used: fiberglass and carbon fiber (carbon). Spinning, made of fiberglass, refers to fishing goods of the lower price category. Their main and only virtue is precisely in a low price. Carbon is superior to fiberglass for all important characteristics.

Correct choice of spinning depending on the transmission rings

spinning rings

The quality of the spinning transfer rings in many ways determines the convenience when fishing. Quality and type of access rings is one of the most important criteria for choosing spinning. This rod element is traditionally made of ceramics, silicon carbide, aluminum oxide.

Ceramic rings are superseded from the market of fishing goods by rings made on the basis of metal-ceramic technologies. The highest strength is in silicon carbide (SIC). Moreover, these rings are even lighter than ceramic options. Externally, this material can be determined by a silvery-gray color with a metallic outflow.

Not so long ago, rings of even higher quality were produced. Their ceramic inserts are made of titanium carbide. The authorship of the development belongs to the company "Berkley".

Based on aluminum oxide, several types of materials are manufactured. The hardest of them has a "hard". It can be of various colors, including brown, whereas pure alumina is a dark gray color. The quality of the transmission rings depends on the manufacturer. Rings made from the same materials, but manufactured by different factories, can have different reliability.

The cost of quality access rings is quite high. But, by and large, rings made of aluminum oxide from a proven manufacturer are quite an option. The importance of the correct choice of spinning, depending on the type of transmission rings, is associated with several factors. First, cheap rings have a lot of weight. And in some species of spinning fishing this point is very critical.

Secondly, they quickly wear out when rubbing against the line, leading to premature damage to not only the rings, but also the lines. The quality of the handle and the type of coil holder determine the convenience of the fisherman when fishing.

We choose depending on the holder of the coil and the handle

A spinning handle can be made from natural cork or micro porous rubber. As you know, everything natural is always better. The case with a spinning handle is no exception. Cork handles are traditionally equipped with more expensive spinning models. Cork has two advantages: less susceptibility to dirt and pleasant warmth.

The length of the rod handle depends on the length of the blank. This is necessary to maintain the correct balance. Unequivocally answer the question, which handle is better - short or long, it is impossible. But you can name the merits of long arms. They are more convenient in the performance of power casts, and in the long struggle with large fish provide the possibility of a good stop.

spinning handle

Coil holders are also divided into several types. The main difference lies in the method of fastening the coil. The most popular and most reliable option is the classic nut version. Especially often it is used in high power spinning.

In spinning’s of medium power, closed holders often combined with a handle are often used. Basically, this design is used in the spinning of the upper price category. On spins of the light class, the coil is attached by two rings. For rod fishing rod with these holders are not suitable.

Combining the above, I draw attention to the moments that should be determined for myself, starting to choose the spinning. These include: the cost of the product, the estimated size of fishing objects, the conditions and type of fishing, the maximum casting distance, the type and weight of the bait.
